Jiang Zengwei, Deputy Minister of Commerce, headed a government Economic and Trade Delegation to Australia and Fiji, in an aim to address the financial crisis and further strengthen trade and economic cooperation with the Oceania. The governmental delegation was accompanied by a delegation of 40 Chinese entrepreneurs organized by China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME). The visit reaped favorable results.
First, it promoted the development of China-Australia and China-Fiji trade & economic relations. Secondly, it reiterated China’s position of opposing trade protectionism and of joining efforts to address the financial crisis. Thirdly, it enhanced two-way exchange and understanding for China and Australia and China and Fiji business communities. The 40 Chinese entrepreneurs had business discussions with their counterpart in Australia and Fiji in communication equipment, construction machinery, power equipment, Mining & Metallurgy, and agreed on cooperation. China Development Bank and China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation also established ties with the Australian and Fijian government, financial agencies and enterprises, and reached consensus on providing financial support to part of the cooperative projects, which could help reach early agreements and implementation.
