The Organizing Committee of the 2nd China Catering Expo held a banquet on Oct. 17, welcoming all Chinese and overseas guests to attend the Expo.
Mr. Jiang Zengwei, Vice Minister of Commerce said in his speech that since the reform and opening up to the outside 28 years ago, China's economy developed rapidly and living standard of Chinese people was improved gradually. The Problem of Food and Clothing was solved ultimately. Now, China was standing at the new point of building a well-off society in an all-round way and constructing a socialist and harmonious society. Chinese catering industry maintained an increase rate of over 10% for 15 years running and number of employees in the industry by now amounted to 20 million. It was predicted that total retail sales for catering service would break through US$1 trillion in 2006.
Mr. Jiang Zengwei said that Chinese catering was rich and colorful, fostered many world famous brands and greatly enjoyed popularity worldwide. Shaanxi Province was an important birthplace of Chinese civilization and food culture, besides, Xi'an was the world-famous historic city and also the start place of ancient Silk Road. The Expo held in Xi'an was not only to seek after the source of Chinese food culture but also the memorable experience in the history of food culture exchange, he hoped that more and more guests at home and abroad could share pleasurably the plentiful achievements made by Chinese catering industry.
The Expo aimed at improving the level of national service industry through promotion of exchanges, study and learning among catering enterprises, enhance the innovation capacity of catering industry to satisfy the multi-layered consumption demand of people and to provide convenient, safe and high-quality catering service to them.
Yuan Chunqing, Acting Governor of Shaanxi Province, Zhao Zhengyong, Deputy Standing Governor of Shaanxi, Zhao Dequan, Vice Governor, and other heads from relative departments and provinces, representatives from Chinese and foreign catering enterprises and associations took part in the Expo, totaling about 800 people.
Before the Banquet, Mr. Jiang Zengwei met secretary-general of International Hotel and Restaurant Association, the representative of overseas guests, introduced in an all-round way the important significance to hold the Expo and hoped that Chinese catering enterprise could enhance exchanges with foreign enterprises in the same industry to contribute the development of Chinese and even the world catering industry.
